In Turkey, a military coup attempt began late at night on 15 July, leaving many people dead and injured. We extend our deepest sympathies to those who have lost loved ones.
Travellers currently in Turkey or those who have reserved a journey to Turkey are advised to follow the news posted on the ministry's website at www.formin.fi Those travelling or planning to travel in Turkey are requested to file a travel notification through www.matkustusilmoitus.fi and to contact their travel agency or airline, if necessary.
Important information regarding travel insurance:
Travel accidents and travel illnesses
Injuries related to the Turkish events are considered as travel accidents. Medical treatment expenses can be covered for the maximum of three years. Psychological symptoms associated with these events can be covered as travel illness. The maximum compensation period for medical treatment expenses depends on the Traveller's Insurance product the insured has.
Missed departure or delay
If a customer misses the departure or has to wait for the start of their journey due to measures taken by authorities concerning public traffic, it might be possible to get compensation under the terms and conditions of a traveller's insurance policy. The airport, for example, is closed. We kindly ask our customers to file their claims on our eServices.
Interruption of a journey due to the attempted coup is not compensated. Interruption of a journey is covered in the case of personal injury or substantial damage caused to the insured person's property in Finland. Evacuation costs can be compensated under the traveller's Crisis Cover included in Traveller's Insurance, if the Ministry for Foreign Affairs recommends people to leave the place. Thus far such a recommendation has not been issued.
Cancellation of a journey due to the coup attempt is not compensated. Cancellation of a journey is covered in the case of personal injury or substantial damage caused to the insured person's property in Finland.
